History

The School was founded in 1935 by Mr & Mrs Burges. It remained proprietarial until 1987 when Mrs Burges was able to secure the long term future of the School by creating Staines Preparatory School Trust.

The School began as a boys only school but very soon admitted girls in order that siblings could attend the same school, and as such is the most long standing co-educational independent school in the area.

Staines Prep opened at No 1 Gresham Road on 8 May 1935 with just eleven pupils. Among them was John Braithwaite who attended the School from 1935-40.

Academics

In 2002 SPS was accredited and became a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) which ensures that all of its member schools are of a high standard through regular inspections and by providing training for staff and advice on all school matters.

While 2004-05 saw excellent results for Staines Prep pupils moving up to local independent and grammar schools. John Braithwaite was the first SPS boy to score a fifty.

Sport

A number of other ex-SPS cricketers: former Middlesex fast bowler Tim Bloomfield; Richard Hall (former captain of Engelfield Green CC). Steven Caulker who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspurs to Bristol City also atended Staines Prep.

Facilities

The School comprises three substantial brick-built houses, the Burges Wing plus the recently completed Jubilee Wing. The local Leisure Centre is adjacent to the School and is used for swimming lessons and some PE/Games activities.
